Roles: CSA coordination, newsletters, veggie support
I grew up with in suburban NJ with my nose in books. Throughout middle school I got straight A's except for one B in cooking class, so while I wasn't sure what to do with my life, I knew I probably shouldn't work with food. I went away to the College of William and Mary and it wasn't until a summer internship that I became interested in farming. It was a soil science project in eastern Washington and I was assigned to study gigantic conventional monocropped farms, which seemed to stretch for miles in every direction. I began to wonder if synthetic fertilizer, chemical pesticides and excessive tillage were truly necessary in order to feed ourselves. Back at school in Virginia, I met a local organic veggie farmer who showed me that sustainability and agriculture are not mutually exclusive! Since then I’ve worked on a variety of farms and helped start Feast Farm in Montpelier. My "off-farm" job is caregiving for local babies and toddlers. Contributing to my community through growing healthy food and caring for our youngest members fills my cup. When I'm not working, my current hobbies are discussing what's for dinner with my husband, telling our toddler to get off the kitchen table, and failing to drink my coffee before it gets cold.
