Planting tips and tricks
Site prep - For areas currently in sod, rototilling and/or smothering is helpful to kill perennial weeds.
Mulching - Wood chips or straw spread around newly planted shrubs and trees helps keep the soil moist and slows down the weeds. We're happy to sell small quantities of wood chips for backyard planting projects - just shoot us an email.
Tree guards! - Voles are one of most common killers of young, woody plants. Hardware cloth or metal screen wrapped around the trunk is a simple and effective solution. Some plants in some locations will also need deer protection to thrive. 4' fencing and grade stakes will work for individual plants and small areas (<400 sq ft).
